International Top Five - Quantum Shrinks but Remains Number One

Quantum of Solace saw its box office sliced nearly in half down to $20.60 million on 8530 screens in 63 markets, however, its running tally grew to $340.61 million after a month of release. It is now the second highest grossing Bond film and the 70th highest grossing film worldwide. The film's best market of the weekend was Germany where it remained in first place with $2.31 million on 801 screens for a total of $35.29 million. Meanwhile in the U.K. it slipped to second place with a still impressive $2.20 million on 500 screens for a total of $72.27 million after a month of release.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa climbed into second place thanks to a first place, $5.79 million opening on 580 screens in Spain. This was 60% more than the original opened with back in 2005. Overall the movie made $13.40 million on 1969 screens in 24 markets for a total of $72.43 million. With openings in France, Germany, Mexico, and the U.K. this weekend, it should climb to the top of the charts.

Transporter 3 opened in third place with $10.87 million on 1165 screens in 3 markets during its opening weekend at the international box office. The film opened in first place in Russia with $4.71 million on 561 screens, while it also placed first in France with a nearly identical opening weekend haul of $4.64 million on 535. This coming weekend it debuts in the U.K. and should do very well there as well.

Twilight slipped a spot to fourth with $8.89 million on 1652 screens in 10 markets for a total of $22.12 million. While the film opened in a number of markets this past weekend, most were of the smaller variety and the most significant was Belgium, however, it had to settle for second place there with $354,000 on 52 screens. Meanwhile it remained in first place in Italy with $3.02 million on 545 screens over the weekend for a total of $9.79 million after two, while it also topped the charts in Mexico for the second weekend in a row earning $1.66 million on 387 screens over the weekend for a total of $5.41 million.

Body Of Lies fell to fifth place with $8.62 million on 3247 screens in 46 markets for a total of $45.98 million. This week's openings include Mexico, where it opened in second place with just $690,000 on 326 screens. The film's only $1 million market of the past weekend was Italy, where it remained in third place with $1.24 million on 318 screens over the weekend for a total of $3.54 million after two.
