Weekend Estimates: Turtles Win Monster Box Office Battle

March 25th, 2007

TMNT won a gigantic battle for box office supremacy this weekend, pulling in an estimated $25.45 million, according to studio estimates released on Sunday. With 300 finishing in second place with $20.51 million, the five other wide releases all under-performed to some extent.

Shooter was third with $14.5 million (considerably less than tracking numbers had suggested); The Last Mimzy just managed to crack $10 million in fifth place, and The Hills Have Eyes II earned an estimated $10 million exactly in a provisional seventh place. Reign Over Me actually performed decently, given its small theater count — it made $8 million in 1,671 locations. So the real failure in the bunch was Pride, which could muster only $4 million in 1,518 theaters.
