Weekend Estimates: Disturbia Upsets Blades to Win Weekend

April 15th, 2007

Disturbia topped the weekend with $23 million, according to studio estimates released on Sunday. That was well ahead of Friday's tracking numbers, and left Blades of Glory in a distant second place with an estimated $14.1 million. The major disappointment for the weekend was the opening of Perfect Stranger, which came in fourth with $11.5 million. Meet the Robinsons, meanwhile, fell just 28% in its third weekend to come third with $12.1 million.

Overall, there were six new wide releases, which meant there were inevitable some major disappointments. None more so than Slow Burn, which was clearly overshadowed by Disturbia and Perfect Stranger and could muster only $800,000 from 1,163 theaters.

Redline ($4 million from 1,607 venues) and Aqua Teen Hunger Force ($3.1 million from 877) fared better, but neither could crack the top ten.
