Movie Website Updates for May 27 - June 2, 2007

June 2, 2007

A busy week for new sites with roughly a dozen making their first appearance on this week's list. However, it was a site making its last appearance, Knocked Up - Official Site, that was judged best-of-the-best.

1408 - Official Site
New look for the teaser site, no new content for the main site.

Balls of Fury - Official Site
This is the new official site. Yes it is identical to the old fan site, which now re-directs here. (On a side note, it still says, "Fan Site", but hopefully that will change soon.)

Crazy Love - Official Site
The usual features for a documentary site, with better style than most.

Day Watch - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, including several clips, but the style is just average.

Dr. Strange - Official Site
This will not be a theatrical release, but these direct-to-DVD releases are popular enough that I thought readers would be interested in seeing the site, and especially the trailer.

Eagle vs. Shark - Official Site
The collage making was added, as was the new and improved personality quiz as well as information on screenings.

Evening - Official Site
Just the basics with four clips and a contest. The clips should help sell the film to its target audience.

Gracie - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, but little in the way of style to help it stand out. There is also a MySpacce page that is better than most pages on that site, but that's not saying too much.

The Heartbreak Kid - Official Site
Just the trailer, which didn't sell me on the project.

I Am Reed Fish - Official Site
Nothing really new from last week.

Interview - Official Site
The trailer was added to the site, which has me very intrigued. Granted, I was intrigued when I saw Steve Buscemi was writing and directing the movie, but the trailer helped even more.

Introducing the Dwights - Official Site
All the usual features are here, (including a very effect trailer), with interview clips with the cast members. Add in the animated transitions and it is a site that works well. Not up to the level of an award-worthy site, but one that sells the movie.

Joshua - Official Site
Typical Fox Searchlight site with the trailer and some images.

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery - Official Site
I really doubt this will be the official movie site, but it does have the teaser trailer and a clip of auditions.

Knocked Up - Official Site
An excellent site that probably could have won the award any number of times since most of the features were added to the flash site. There are two reasons why it didn't win till this week firstly, the small number of updates each time were usually overshadowed by one site that had a massive update. Secondly, too much of the content is hidden behind age verification that doesn't take into account Canadians, (which is ironic considering its star is Canadian). Canada represents about 10% of the total domestic box office, which is about the size of California. Blocking Canadians from seeing 18+ trailers is crazy, and I know it is possible to set up a system that can either check people in Canada or except them. (I'd go with the latter since our ratings system is a lot less strict than in the States.) Moving on... The site has all of the regular features a site needs as well as extras including a ton of movie clips, behind-the-scenes featurette, and interactive games. Easy worth winning the gestating Weekly Website Award.

The Last Hangman - Official Site
There's no site for the North American release, but the U.K. site above is understated, but that fits with the movie.

Live Free or Die Hard - Official Site
There's a game and if you beat all three levels, (which is pretty easy), you get a look at the new trailer.

Mr. Brooks - Official Site
Overall this site works with all the usual features and a couple extras. It is good at setting the mood, but not good enough to lift it to the award-worthy level.

National Treasure: The Book of Secrets - Official Site
Just the trailer, which didn't get me excited about the movie.

No End In Sight - Official Site
All the usual features for a documentary site are here, with a few clips as bonuses.

Ratatouille - Official Site
Two more featurettes were added to the vide section and that places the total at seven.

Resident Evil: Extinction - Official Site
The flash site is up, but it only has the synopsis and trailer so far.

Rise: Blood Hunter - Official Site
Just the trailer, which doesn't sell the movie very well.

Speed Racer - Official Site
New teaser site, but so far there is just a promise that content will be added within a week. Let's hope that's true.

Tell No One - Official Site
Just the very basics with short clips as transitions. However, the clips are just of the lead character running and hardly do much to sell the movie.

Talk to Me - No Official Site
No official site yet, but we do have the Trailer. (Quicktime required.)

Ten Canoes - Official Site
There's not site for the North American release, but the Australian one is effective.

The Transformers - Official Site
The site was completely redesigned this week but there's not much new content. However, there are plenty of features marked coming soon, including games.

Your Mommy Kills Animals - Official Site
MySpace. A particularly ugly MySpace page. However, there are a lot of clips to watch.
