$10,000 Club is Shallow this Week

August 28, 2007

Deep Water was the only film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart after opening with $22,632 in two theaters for an average of $11,316.

The only new release to come close to that mark was Heyy Babyy with an average of $9,007 in 68 theaters. Dedication and Hannah Takes the Stairs were neck and neck at $5,958 and $5,901 respectively, however, the latter film made $10,173 if you include its midweek numbers. The rest of the new limited releases all struggled with The Hottest State pulling in an average of $2,848 in three theaters. Right At Your Door opened in 20 theaters but earned just $32,000 for an average of $1,623. Closing Escrow barely cracked $1,000 on the per theater chart with $1,154 while Eye of the Dolphin couldn't even do that with $306.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • 2 Days in Paris hit its first milestone and should still expand over the coming weeks.
  • My Best Friend reached $1 million over the weekend, more than 8 months after its was first released.
  • Death at a Funeral fell less than 16%, earning another $1 million over the weekend while reaching $2 million in total. It probably topped $3 million on Monday while it should reach $4 million by this time next week.
  • Talk to Me made it to $4 million over the past week and even though it has peaked at the box office and with its theater count, it could still make it to $5 million before it is done.
  • Becoming Jane managed to hit $10 million before the weekend and should hit $15 million before long. However, it will start shedding theaters at an accelerated pace and that could put $20 million out of reach.
