Movie Website Updates for February 17 - February 23

February 23, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Just when I thought the slump was over, we have the shortest list in a few weeks. The best site of the week was Brick - Official Site, which helped sell the movie well and that is the most important job of a movie site.

16 Blocks - Official Site
Explore My 16 Blocks went online this week, but it doesn't include Canadian addresses so I couldn't add mine in.

300 - Official Site
The third production journal was added to the site. This one discusses the trainer regiment the actors went through to prepare for the movie.

Alien Autopsy - Official Site
The placeholder site has been redesigned, but the only real content on the site is still the trailer.

Ant Bully - Official Site
The placeholder site was redesigned, but outside a short intro and some content marked coming soon, there's nothing new here.

Aquamarine - Official Site
The B.F.F. section was added to the site. I think that means Best Friends Forever, but it could also mean Binary File Format or even Boston Film Festival, I'm not entirely sure.

Art School Confidential - Official Site
The trailer is Online, but not on the site yet. I liked the trailer more than I thought I would. I was afraid the movie would try way to hard to be edgy and hip, and while that it is still a concern, it has been lessened somewhat.

Brick - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and it has a lot of information including all the usual features, (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer). There are also so extras like information on the music, a glossary of terms, as well as clips and interviews marked coming soon. Add in audio clips and some cool background music and this is a good site that sets the right mood and sells the movie well. I do have one concern, and that's with the glossary; I'm worried that I'll need to study the slang to understand the movie. Regardless of that, the site is the best of the week and the winner of the lexiconic Weekly Website Award.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
The second part of the 360-degree shot clip has been added. By next weekend the 50th clip should be on the site.

The Da Vinci Code - Official Site
The character bios were added to the site this week, but they had more information on the symbols than the actual characters.

David Chappelle's Block Party - Official Site
The flash site is up, but outside the regular features, there's not much here. At least there are some addition features marked coming soon, but there's not much time to add them.

Doogal - Official Site
Typical Weinstein Co. movie website with just some clips from the soundtrack as the only special features.

Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) - Official Site
Another flash site that launched this week. This one has a lot of information, including most of the regular features. Add in a bit of sound and animation, and you have a good site, but note one that stands out enough to be an award-winning site.

Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector - Official Site
Just the trailer so far, which left me cold.

Little Fish - Official Site
It's been a long time since there were any updates to this site.

Madea's Family Reunion - Official Site
No new updates in a while.

Running Scared - Official Site
Not much has changed this week and I don't think the site sells the film very well. Sure, the X-rated game is generating a lot of traffic, but I don't think that will translate into a higher box office.

The Shaggy Dog - Official Site
Another flash site that launched this week, this one has the most content, but much of it is still marked coming soon. Of the regular features, only the synopsis, image gallery and trailer are currently on the site with the production note and cast & crew bios marked coming soon. Special features include a game, personality quiz, and more. Add in plenty of audio clips and it's a good site, but I don't think it sells the film very well. If you weren't interested in the movie before you saw the site, you won't be interested now.

She's the Man - Official Site
There's a clip of Amanda Bynes whenever you load a section. Had there been different clips for each section, this would have been a major plus, but since it's just the same clip over and over again, it gets too repetitive too quickly.

Take the Lead - Official Site
A second game, virtual dancer, was added to the site.

Tsotsi - Official Site
Not much has changed since the first time the site was on this list.

Unknown White Male - Official Site
Nothing new since the site was first featured on this list.
