DVD Sales - TV on DVD Dominates Sales Chart

September 16, 2007

With the fall TV schedule about to start, TV shows on DVD dominated both the new release list and the sales chart, including The Office - Season Three taking first place. That release sold 410,000 units for $13.11 million in sales. Blades of Glory was close behind in terms of units sold, 387,000, but well behind in terms of dollars, $6.25 million. Delta Farce was a surprise entry in the top five, earning third place with 293,000 units and $5.85 million in sales; add in its rentals and the film made more during its opening week on the home market than it did theatrically. It is still far from financially successful though. On the other hand, Wild Hogs continues to impress, selling another 260,000 units this week for a total of 3.48 million after four. It has now brought in $55.57 million in sales, including $4.16 million this past week. Georgia Rule placed fifth with 251,000 units and $4.78 million during its first week in release.

Disney Princess Enchanted Tales - Follow Your Dreams was close behind with 220,000 units sold for the week for $3.95 million in sales. Next up was a trio of TV on DVD releases led by Prison Break - Season Two in ninth place with 136,000 units / $5.17 million in sales. Nip/Tuck - The Complete Fourth Season was close behind with 128,039 units / $4.86 million while Desperate Housewives - The Complete Third Season was 11th with 115,000 units / $4.50 million in sales. Up next were a pair of direct-to-DVD releases with Chill Out Scooby-Doo coming in 13th with 70,000 units sold for sales of $1.12 million. Finally, Bobby Z debuted in 19th place with 49,000 units sold or $979,000.

On a side note, with the release of Serenity - Collector's Edition, Firefly - The Complete Series returned to the charts in 23rd place with 41,000 units sold for a weekly total of $1.14 million in sales.
