DVD Sales - Fantastic Four Rises to the Top

There was a battle for top spot on this week's DVD sales chart between two new releases. Both Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer's and The Jungle Book's respective studios claimed top prize, but in the end Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer outsold The Jungle Book 1.47 million to 1.28 million and also led in terms of dollars, $24.04 million to $19.18 million. Knocked Up fell to third place, selling 597,000 additional units for total sales of 2.89 million and $55.32 million in revenue after just two weeks. 1408 opened in fourth place, selling 548,000 units, but in terms of dollars its haul of $13.81 million placed it third. Finally, Next landed in fifth place with just 111,000 units sold for the week and 384,000 in total, lifting its sales to $7.12 million after two weeks.

There were a handful of other new releases to chart this week led by Entourage - Season 3 - Part 2, which placed tenth with 78,000 units sold or $1.96 million in sales. The War opened in 14th place according to units sold with 58,000, but it had the fifth highest sales in dollars at $4.59 million. Fantastic Four also released a 2-Pack that sold 52,000 units for $1.24 million in sales. Finally, Metalocalypse - Season One debuted in 21st place with 47,000 units sold or $1.09 million in sales.
