DVD Rentals - Another Surfer Scores First Place

October 21, 2007

New releases took three of the top five places including Surf's Up, which earned first place with $8.13 million. This is unusual since kids movies tend to place higher on the sales chart than the rental chart, but that was not the case here. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer slipped to second place with $7.29 million, but that represents just a 23% drop-off and lifted its total to $16.75 million. Reign Over Me placed third with $7.09 million, and that is much better than it managed on the sales chart. Evan Almighty landed in fourth place with $6.42 million showing most people either loved the movie and wanted to own it or were not interested enough to even rent it. Finally, Knocked Up landed in fifth place with $5.83 million for the week and $24.30 million after three.

There were only two other new releases to chart with 28 Weeks Later placing eighth with $3.23 million and You Kill Me in 13th with $1.68 million.
