Narnia Regains Top Spot Over New Year's Weekend

January 2nd, 2006

Another ding-dong battle for top spot on the charts raged over the weekend, with The Chronicles of Narnia prevailing over King Kong by a mere $1 million, according to studio estimates. Over three days, Narnia earned a healthy $25.7 million, up 30% from the comparable period a week ago. Kong, meanwhile, earned $24.6 million, an increase of 16% from Christmas.

Over four days, Narnia grossed an estimated $32.8 million, while Kong drew a $31.6 million crowd.

The weekend saw across the board increases for movies in the top 10, sometimes artificially boosted because movies opened on Sunday last week.
