Polar Express Hit Another Milestone on IMAX

March 11, 2006

The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience, which was already the highest grossing DMR film, crossed $60 million worldwide during its second season of release. The film earned $15 million during its second season despite going up against its DVD release. If the film can earn anything close to that next year, it could become a seasonal event like Santa vs. the Snowmen and if that happens, it could challenge some of the All-Time Champs.

On the other hand, Deep Sea 3-D didn't get off to a great start with just under $700,000 in 43 theatres. Its per theatre average of $16,113 was the best of any film that weekend, but not up to the level most IMAX films earn.
