The Aristocrats' Box Office is no Joke

August 2, 2005

The unrated film, The Aristocrats, easily took top spot on the Per Theatre Charts with an incredible average of $60,949 in four theatres. The film expands the Friday after next, and until then it's hard to tell how much of that figure is based on quality of the movie and how much is based on the controversy surrounding it. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Balzac & the Little Chinese Seamstress, which opened with $16,694 in its lone theatre.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theatre Charts alumni:

  • Me and You and Everyone We Know is proving its $30,000 opening average was no fluke as it hit $2 million midweek and is well on its way to $3 million.
  • March of the Penguins hit $10 million on Monday, $15 million by Sunday and should be close to $20 million before the weekend begins.
