Movie Website Updates for August 26 - September 1

September 1, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Serenity - Official Site.

All is Normal
Just the trailers so far, both the teaser and the full trailer.

The Constant Gardener
A bunch of snippets were added from some reviews.

Corpse Bride
Some more character bios were added, this time for the underworld characters, as were the production notes.

The Devil and Daniel Johnston
The site has all the usual features, plus a few extras, but it doesn't have a very polished feel.

Doom
The full trailer is up and I've never seen a movie take its video game roots to heart quite so much. This could either make the film stylish and cool, or simply ridiculous. It's too soon to tell.

Elizabethtown
The music section was added to the site, as was a journal called Clarie's America.

The Fog
The flash site launched during the past week, and while the site sets the right mood, there's not enough here that really sells the movie, at least not yet.

G
Just the very basics, synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailers, with clips marked coming soon.

The Greatest Game Ever Played
Good site with enough style to keep a surfer's interest, but too much is marked coming soon to make a final judgement. It does have a lot of potential.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
There's a new trailer online, but it's the international trailer so you have to go to the international sites to look at it. I thought the first trailer was incredibly effective, especially watching the three main actors change from the first movies. But even so, I prefer the international trailer, which is true of many movies that have different trailers for the international market.

Just Like Heaven
The flash site went live this week and the highlight of the site is the video section. Not only do you get both trailers, but there's are two clips from the movie, a behind-the-scene featurette, and four interviews. There are also two extras (soundtrack and "Darryl the Psychic") that are both marked coming soon. Add in all the regular features and this is definitely a contender for the Weekly Website Award, maybe when the last two features are added it will win.

Lord of War
The tour of the world is up, or at least the first two locations, West Africa and the Ukraine. This section is filled with audio clips, mostly from Nicolas Cage's narration in the film. The site really sells the film well, and when the rest of the World Tour is up it could be an award winning site.

Mission: Impossible: 3
Just the name and release date so far.

North Country
Just the synopsis and the image gallery so far with video marked coming soon.

Saw 2
The full site is up, sort of; right now there's just a series of short clips that take you to the countdown for the release date.

The Proposition
Just the synopsis, image gallery, and trailer.

Serenity
The flash site launched this week and it is easily the best on this week's list, and there are a few really good sites this week. Most of the regular features are on the site (synopsis, image gallery, trailers) and a couple more marked coming soon. But the heart of the site comes from the characters. Each character has their own section with a bio and an extra section, for instance, Jayne Cobb's section has weapons, others have games, a quiz, a cookbook, info on the ship and more. If you answer enough questions correct on the quiz, you get access to a bonus clip. There are also a few features marked coming soon: production notes, bios, and wallpaper creator. Add in audio and video clips, an inventive menu system and a 10 out of 10 on the cool factor and you have the winner of the tranquil Weekly Website Award.

A Sound of Thunder
Nothing new since last week.

The Squid and the Whale
The trailer was added to the side, but it has a too familiar feel for an indie film.

Sueno
Typical Sony placeholder site with just the synopsis and photo gallery.

Three Days of Rain
All the basics are here, with a lot of extras in the form of audio clips. Each section has its own audio intro and so does each of the half-a-dozen stories.

Transporter 2
Three TV Spots were added to the site in time for tomorrow's release, but they are just preaching to the choir. If you weren't excited about seeing the movie, these ads won't change your mind. On a side note, there are still two clips marked coming soon.

Underclassman
No changes in a while.

Waiting...
There's been a redesign of the placeholder site and it now sports the same look as the new poster. There's also a new image galley, but the link to the second set of images in broken at the moment.
