Weekend Theater Counts: Wallace and Gromit Make a Grand Entrance

October 7th, 2005

Clay-mation heroes Wallace and Gromit make their full-length feature film debut this weekend in an impressive 3,645 theaters. With stellar reviews, Dreamworks has evidently made a big push to get the movie distributed as widely as possible, and there's a decent prospect for a big opening weekend. Nick Park's previous movie, Chicken Run opened to a relatively modest $17.5 million in the height of the Summer back in 2000. But that movie only had a relatively modest opening in 2,491 theaters. Wallace and Gromit look strong favorites to win the weekend, and will be looking to beat that mark. With four other movies opening wide this week, the battle for the remaining box office dollars will be hard-fought indeed.
