Weekend Theater Counts: Aeon Flux Unlikely to Challenge Goblet of Fire

December 1st, 2005

The weekend after Thanksgiving is an interesting time to release a movie. With the Holiday Season coming up, there's a decent chance for a film to earn good money if it gets positive word of mouth. With family movies and blockbusters focusing on the big holiday weekends, there's an opportunity for niche movies to get a good weekend in too. The big challenge for a mid-tier movie, however, is finding enough theaters reach its audience.

It's no surprise, therefore, to see Aeon Flux opening this weekend in a reasonable, but far from spectacular 2,608 theaters. That kind of distribution gives it a chance at a $15 million opening, but little chance of dislodging Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire from the top of the charts.
