Movie Websites Launches for March 26 - April 1

April 1, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Hellboy - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

13 going on 30
Current Content: The horoscope / Astrology sections were added. That leaves only the production notes, cast and crew bios, slang translator, 80s-ize it, get Jenna's look, career quiz, romance quiz, 17 years from now, Jennifer's take on Jenna, M.A.S.H. and promotions marked coming soon. With just three weeks till the movie opens, this site should be on this list till then.

Alexander
Current Content: Placeholder site with just the synopsis.

Alien vs. Predator
Current Content: The flash site launched this week, however, a lot of the features were already on the placeholder site. in total the site now has the synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), two trailers, two featurettes (one marked coming soon), image gallery, wallpapers. Combined with extensive animations, including some clips from the movie and effective background music and this is a strong site. My only concern is the timing, with more than four months till the movie is released and very little marked coming soon, surfers will lose interest in returning to the site long before the release date arrives. Unless there is more to be added and it's just not marked coming soon.

Around the World in 80 Days
Current Content: There was a slight change to the placeholder site including adding a countdown to the movie's release. The flash site also launched this week, which central feature is a tour of the world. Right now just the first location, London, is active. In London you can read about three inventors and play a game where you launch Passepartout with a rather large machine trying to break 50 miles per hour. Some of the normal features are also there, synopsis, trailer, cast and crew bios (marked coming soon) and wallpapers.

Batman Begins
Current Content: If you click on the bat symbol you get a sneak peak of the new Bat car.

Connie and Carla
Current Content: Clips from 10 songs were added to the site under the Soundtrack section and three clips from the movie were added to the multimedia section. However, Drag Queen Dress Up, which was marked coming soon, is no longer on the site.

The Day After Tomorrow
Current Content: The second volume of Timestamp was added to the site, this one dealing with early anomalies in the weather.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Current Content: Just the trailer and one other clip from the movie.

Envy
Current Content: The Vapoorize Info site is back and several clips, interview and behind the scene looks were added.

Garfield
Current Content: The new trailer was added to the site, and while it's more effective than the first one, it's still not great.

Hellboy
Current Content: This site is huge. Since its launched more than a year ago has had regular updates and now sports an impressive amount of features. In addition to the usual features, synopsis, trailer, etc. this site has plenty of extras. Character bios, concept art with optional commentary from director Guillermo Del Toro and sometimes Mike Mignola, more than half a dozen behind the scenes featurettes, timeline and more. There's even a game that was added this week. Combined with plenty of animation and sound effects, plus background music, this site should have won the award weeks ago. In fact, I thought it did. However, that oversight will be rectified this week as it takes home the diabolical Weekly Website Award.

Home on the Range
Current Content: A good site for kids with plenty of games to play, stuff to download and sound and animation to keep them entertained. But it never really tries to go beyond that audience.

The Last Shot
Current Content: So far it's just a placeholder site with the synopsis and the trailer. A few more features are marked coming soon and there's plenty of time till the movie opens in the fall.

Mean Girls
Current Content: The rest of downloads are movie stuff was added to the site this week. But the other two sections, Deal With It and Games, are marked coming soon.

Mr. 3000
Current Content: Placeholder site with just the trailer and the poster for now.

The Prince and Me
Current Content: The award winning site had no new updates since last week.

Shaolin Soccer
Current Content: Another movie opening this week that had no changes to its site since last week.

Shaun of the Dead
Current Contact: A new trailer was added to the site and it's just as good as the first.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter … and Spring
Current Content: This site has a good mix of animation, sounds and content, but nothing to really set it apart from other site.

Stateside
Current Content: Like the previous site without as much sound and animation. Hopefully there will be more updates before the movie is released at the end of next month.

The Stepford Wives
Current Content: The flash site launched, but it's mostly the same old site with a new format. Two formats, actually. You can choose between the Stepford Men's Association and the Woman's Day Spa. There's no change in the actual content, just the style. The only content currently there is the synopsis, teaser trailer and some downloads with the rest marked coming soon.

United States of Leland
Current Content: Three songs were added as background music just in time for tomorrow's limited release.

Walking Tall
Current Content: The film clips were added to the site before the movie opens tomorrow.

The Whole Ten Yards
Current Content: The flash site launched this week, but like some of the other new launches, this one is gallery was added to the placeholder site. The only new features are the cast and crew bios and Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski blog.

Young Adam
Current Content: Another solid yet unspectacular website. It has the usual features but nothing in the way of extras that would make a surfer want to keep coming back.
