Movie Websites Launches for July 9 - July 15

July 15, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Garden State - Official Site . If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

Alien vs. Predator
Current Content: A couple more downloads were added, including an extreme desktop.

A Cinderella Story
Current Content: No changes since last week. Over all, it's a good site that should do well attracting the film's target audience.

Collateral
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and it has all the standard fare, most of it marked coming soon. The synopsis, two trailers and an image gallery is there, but we'll have to wait for all the rest.

The Cookout
Current Content: The flash site launched this week, but there's quite a bit of the regular features not there. The synopsis, trailer and downloads are on the site, but cast and crew bios aren't even marked coming soon. There are some unusual features like character quotes and cookout recipes. And the movie doesn't open till the beginning of September, so who knows what will be added before then.

A Dirty Shame
Current Content: Just the trailer and an image gallery so far.

The Door in the Floor
Current Content: Simple site with just the regular features, synopsis, cast and crew bios, trailer, etc. There are also some clips marked coming soon.

Garden State
Current Content: Big update this week with most of the usual features being added to the site, specifically the synopsis, cast and crew bios and image gallery. And the way these are presented is very well done. Take the cast bios, for example, each cast member has an audio clip to go with their bio. Three of the sections also have a foggy picture, but as you most the mouse over it, it clears up; not only that but your mouse pointer constantly drips water and if these drips fall across the picture they will also make the picture clearer. It's like you're wiping condensation off of the screen. Very cool. But the biggest addition to the site was the video clips. Each section has a video clip you can watch with or without commentary from writer / director / star Zach Braff. And the making of section has more than two dozen behind the scenes clip and 18 interview clips. Very cool as well. If you were to take all the video clips combined are there are more extras on this site than there are on most DVDs released today. Already you can tell this is an award-winning site, and I haven't even got to the background music, (there are three clips with a combined length of a minute and a half.) It is easily the winner of the botanical Weekly Website Award.

I, Robot
Current Content: No updates since last week, but this is a very good site with lots to see and do including several video clips and quite a few games.

The Manchurian Candidate
Current Content: The interactive segment of the site was expanded.

Maria Full of Grace
Current Content: No new updates since the flash site first launched.

Mean Creek
Current Content: All the usual features are here, synopsis, trailer, image gallery, cast and crew bios, production notes. Also, there is information on the soundtrack and some reviews.

Ray
Current Content: Just the synopsis and the cast and crew (no bios) plus some downloads.

Shark Tale
Current Content: It's been almost almost two months since the site was update, which was my biggest concern at the time. There was plenty of stuff marked coming soon, but instead of uploading a little at a time and bringing surfers back week after week, they decided to wait two months for a big update. The format of the site has been changed with more video clips but less animations. However, most of the site is still marked coming soon. I do like the background sound and audio clips, but the volume on the video clips is too low.

Stander
Current Content: The full site is up and it has most of the usual features, synopsis, trailer, cast bios, etc. There is also a bit of animation on the site, but no sound.

Touch of Pink
Current Content: Good site with all the usual features presented in a very appealing way. Along with the regular features are more than half a dozen recipes for Indian Cuisine. That's the second site to on this week's list to have recipes on it. I wonder if it’s a new trend?

Without a Paddle
Current Content: A simple game was added to the site.

Zhou's Yu's Train
Current Content: I could get this site to function on my machine. I'm not sure if it's because I use Mozilla, or it's because of some other reason.
