Orlando FX Show and "Battle Royale 2"

January 13th, 2003

At this past weekend's Orlando FX Comic and Toy Convention, which I was present at with my comics-obsessed boyfriend, I ran into both Linda Blair and Doug Bradley, the latter famous for his role as Hellraiser's Pinhead. During a brief semi-Q&A session with a couple of fans, Bradley stated that he had just finished filming two more Hellraiser films, these being the seventh and eighth in the popular series.

Cliver Barker started the horror franchise in 1987 with his directorial debut. The small-budgeted flick went on to gross more then $20 million in the States.

On the other side of the world, legendary filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku (Tora! Tora! Tora!) has pulled out of directing the sequel to his mega-hit 2000 horror movie, Battle Royale, from complications of bone cancer. It looks like his son, Kenta, will take over the reigns until further notice. If you didn't know, Battle Royale is a Japanese thriller that bubbled up controversy over its ultra-violent subject matter of teenagers forced to kill each other on a desolate island for survival.

Battle Royale is currently unavailable in the US, though bootlegs and official DVD copies can be found on the net as well as comic shops and in Chinatown, NYC, where I picked up my copy for cheap cheap cheap!
