"Blair Witch 3" and "Trainspotting 2" rev up

January 21st, 2003

A Blair Witch prequel could be on the way. In an interview with original Blair Witch co-director, Dan Myrick, it was stated that a script was in the process and would return to the roots of the origin of the infamous Blair witch.

The first film was a surprise hit in the summer of 1999, having grossed $141 million domestically. Unfortunately, the phenomenon was short-lived as the 2000 sequel, Book of Shadows, flopped badly. Myrick and fellow director Eduardo Sanchez have made a comedy, Heart of Love, starring (of all people) comedian Gallagher and Don Knotts, though the movie, which was filmed in their hometown of Orlando, FL, has yet to receive a proper release.

At the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Danny Boyle told audiences that a Trainspotting sequel will be under way shortly. Based on the Irvine Welsh novel, Porno, the follow-up will feature the same cast as the 1996 flick, including Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle.

Last up is this frightening bit: British magazines Hello and The Mirror have reported rumors that Britney Spears may star as Bruce Willis' daughter in a new Die Hard installment. Spears' film debut, Crossroads, was presented with an onslaught of negative reviews and disappointing box-office last winter.
