The Producers Comes Full Circle

June 3rd, 2003

The Broadway Musical hit, The Producers is headed back to the big screen. The Mel Brooks’ classic was first done as a movie back in 1968 with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel in the lead roles. In March 2001 a Broadway version with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane opened to both critical acclaim and great popular appeal. In fact, it won a record breaking 12 Tony Awards that year. And now Universal is looking to bring back much of the original Broadway talent as possible for a new movie version. This would include not only stars Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane but also writer Thomas Meehan and director Susan Stroman.
