Per Theater Chart: Danny Boy

Danny Collins led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $14,631 in five theaters. However, since its reviews are merely good and not great, I doubt it will have the legs needed to thrive in limited release. The overall box office leader, Insurgent, was next with an average of $13,487. Last week's winner on the per theater chart, It Follows, was the only holdover in the $10,000 club earning an average of $10,777 in 32 theaters. It has room to grow and should have no trouble earning a least some small measure of mainstream success. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter was the only other film that did well, with an average of $8,529 in four theaters over the weekend, while it earned an average of $10,101 since Wednesday.

None of the rest of the new limited releases did well. In fact, four of the five missed the Mendoza Line, earning less than $2,000 per theater. Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police earned an average of $2,828 in two theaters over the weekend. Spring, a horror film, was also opening in Video on Demand, so it is not surprising it struggled in theaters earning an average of $1,640 in 12 theaters. Amour fou doesn't have those excuses, so it is puzzling how it only managed an average of $1,462 in three theaters over the weekend and $2,036 since Wednesday. She's Lost Control opened with $900 in one theater over the weekend. The final new limited release of the week was Zombeavers, which earned an average of $816 in ten theaters over the weekend. It might find a cult following on the home market.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Wild Tales crossed $1 million over the weekend and it has a real shot at $2 million.
  • The Imitation Game has amassed $90 million at the box office, giving it 36th place for the year. It will probably end there, as Heaven is for Real appears to be out of reach.
