DVD Sales: New Releases were One-Two-Three on DVD

April 13, 2015

The DVD sales chart was top heavy with new releases. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies earned first place with 682,000 units / $10.21 million, which is about on par with expectations. The Trilogy box set landed in 11th place with 33,000 units / $1.19 million.

Into the Woods opened in second place with 394,000 units / $6.05 million. That's not a bad start, especially given the competition and the release date. Unbroken was the third $100 million release to come out this week. It sold 212,000 units and generated $3.18 million during its first week of release. Penguins of Madagascar slipped one spot to fourth down just 43% to 109,000 units / $1.64 million for the week and 301,000 units / $4.51 million after two. Big Hero 6 returned to the top five with 99,000 units / $1.75 million for the week and 1.65 million units / $26.52 million after five weeks of release.

There were no other new releases to chart.
