Friday Estimates: The Overall Weekend is Very Good

The Good Dinosaur

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 has fallen off Part 1’s pace with a Friday haul of $21.25 million. On the positive side, it has $167.96 million after just 8 days of release and should get to $200 million over the weekend. Its theater average is strong enough that it should remain in wide release, even after Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens.

The Good Dinosaur jumped 139% to $15.66 million on Friday. That’s less than the increase Penguins of Madagascar had at this point in its run, which is disappointing. The film still has $32.04 million after three days of release, which is almost as much as Penguins managed over five days. It’s a good start, but below expectations.

Creed wasn’t hurt by Thanksgiving day as much as the rest of the top five, but it also didn’t see as strong an increase on Friday either. It grew 81% to $11.7 million for the day for a running tally of $24.18 million. Some thought it wouldn’t make that much over five days.

The opposite is true for Victor Frankenstein, which added $905,000 on Friday for a three-day total of of $1.99 million. It is going to make less over five days than it needed to make opening day to be considered a hit.
