Theater Averages: Ran Runs Away from the Competition with $11,462

March 2, 2016

Ran

Rialto re-released Ran over the weekend, which is not something I recommend you say five times fast. The film pulled in $11,462 in its one theater, making it the only film to earn an average of more than $10,000.

None of the new limited releases were even close to the $10,000. The best of the rest was King Georges with an average of $3,758 in four theaters. The Last Man on the Moon was playing in 13 theaters and only managed an average of $2,375. Like for Likes missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,395 in 18 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Busco Novio Para Mi Mujer got to $1 million before the weekend, but it is not a sure thing that it will get to $2 million.
  • Neerja hit $1 million over the weekend and it has a real shot at $2 million.
  • The Mermaid got to $1 million before the weekend and $2 million over the weekend. On the one hand, its average suggests it will continue to expand, but its sharp decline says it is still a niche film.
  • Where to Invade Next reached $2 million since last weekend and it should hit $3 million before too long.
  • As expected, The Lady in the Van made it to $5 million at the box office. $10 million is unlikely, but I can't dismiss the possibility.
