Predict the Academy Awards Contest Results

May 26, 2016

Much as I would like to have a sophisticated excuse, sometimes it’s better to just ’fess up. The final tallies and determination of winners from this year’s Predict the Academy Awards contest just got lost in my to-do list this year. Today I finally wrapped up all the calculations and can announce the winners…

This year proved to be one of the hardest on record to predict. For the first time since 2012 getting 20 out of 24 predictions correct was enough to win first place. The only player to score that impressive number was Clem Aifer of Arlington, Virginia. Clem wins all eight Best Picture nominees on DVD or Blu-ray.

In second place, Lee Lassiter of Topeka, Kansas was the first person to enter a prediction that scored 19 out of 24. Lee wins Spotlight or Inside Out on DVD or Blu-ray.

In third place, and also winning Spotlight or Inside Out on DVD or Blu-ray, is third-place finisher, and top contestant among our top 200 players this year, Peachie, from San Pablo, California.

Finally, a shout-out to Gonzalo Martinez Fernandez of Murcia, Spain, who was our top finisher from overseas. Gonzalo isn’t eligible for a prize, unfortunately, but deserves a virtual high five for successfully identifying 18 out of 24 Oscar-winners from all the way across the Atlantic.

Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to everyone who entered this year. Please check the links below for this year’s rankings, and to see how you fared. And look out for our 20th anniversary contest next year!
