Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story led the way on the theater average chart with an average of $37,306. This wasn’t that far above the second place film, Fences, which earned an average of $32,366. Meanwhile, last week’s winner, La La Land, was pushed into third place with an average of $20,510.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Neruda, which earned an average of $9,801 in three theaters. The Wasted Times was next with an average of $4,776 in 20 theaters. Chosen barely avoided the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,471 in its lone theater. The Bad Kids was also only playing in one theater and earned $1,564. A Kind of Murder only managed an average of $326 in three theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for several Theater Average Chart alumni:

    Jackie reached $1 million before weekend and it is already more than halfway to $2 million.
  • La La Land also topped $1 million before the weekend. By the end of the weekend, it was already at $5 million.
  • Miss Sloane got to $2 million before the weekend, $3 million over the weekend, but $4 million might be out of reach.
  • Manchester by the Sea made it all the way to $10 million very early in the weekend and it is already nearly at $15 million.
