Theater Averages: Beast’s Reign Continues with $21,479

March 29, 2017

Beauty and the Beast

It was a bad week for limited releases, as the only two films to top $10,000 on the per theater chart were also the two biggest hits on the weekend chart. Beauty and the Beast remained in first place with an average of $21,479, while Power Rangers were well back with an average of $10,913.

We only have numbers for four new limited releases and none of them did well. Granted, nearly all of them were playing in way too many theaters for a limited release. Phillauri earned an average of $3,527 in 74 theaters, while Slamma Jamma was right behind with $3,361 in 502. Wilson missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,085 in 310 theaters. The only film not playing in dozens of theaters was The Levelling; in fact, it was only playing in one theater and sadly only managed $160.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Slamma Jamma opened with more that $1 million, so obviously it reached that milestone as well.
  • Paterson got to $2 million, but that’s as far as it will go.
  • The Sense of an Ending got to $1 million in its third weekend of release. It has a shot at $2 million, but it might start losing theaters too quickly to get there.
  • La La Land danced its way to $150 million, putting it in 19th place on the 2016 domestic chart.
