Theater Counts: Wonder Woman Debuts in 4,165 Theaters

Wonder Woman will launch in 4,165 theaters this weekend, according to Warner Bros.’ Thursday morning report. That makes it the fifth-biggest new release of 2017, and should be enough theaters to propel the film to a healthy opening weekend, particularly on the back of excellent reviews. Roughly two thirds of films opening in 4,150 theaters or more break $100 million on opening weekend, and the ones that have missed have mostly, like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, hit with bad reviews.

Dead Men Tell No Tales will actually remain the film playing in most theaters this weekend, as it keeps the 4,276 locations it started out in. It will shed plenty of those next weekend to make room for The Mummy, which Universal expects will start out in over 4,000 venues.
