Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: The Golden Circle returned to top spot with $48.7 million in 61 markets for totals of $250.3 million internationally and $344.9 million worldwide. Nearly all of the film’s weekend haul came from China, where the movie earned $39.15 million over the weekend for a total opening of $39.83 million. This is almost double what the original opened with in this market, meaning Kingsman: The Golden Circle could top the original’s international numbers making a third film in the franchise almost a sure thing.

Geostorm earned second place with $36.4 million in 50 markets for an early international total of $49.6 million. The film earned first place in Russia with $5.21 million on 1,321 screens. It had to settle for second place in South Korea with $4.66 million on 854 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $5.30 million. It was weaker in the U.K. ($2.14 million in 477 theaters) and Australia ($1.20 on 324 screens). It is clearly going to do better internationally than it will do here, but likely not by enough to pay for its $100 million price-tag.

Never Say Die fell to third place with $15 million over the weekend for a total of $308 million after four weeks of release. The film earned $14.48 million during the weekend in its native China, pushing its total to $307.36 million in its native market. No comedy has ever earned $300 million in a single market, so this is very impressive.

Blade Runner 2049 landed in fourth place with $13.85 million on 8,323 screens in 82 markets for totals of $120.03 million internationally and $194.23 million worldwide. The film had no major market openings this past weekend, but it has yet to open in China and Japan, so it isn’t done yet. That said, it would have to be a massive hit in those two markets to break even any time soon.

It rounded out the top five, again, with $12.8 million in 60 markets for totals of $331.4 million internationally and $651.6 million worldwide. This week, the film debuted in Italy earning first place with a stunning $7.64 million. The film’s final major market is Japan, where it opens in November.
