Per Theater Chart Succumbs to Sicko

June 26, 2007

Only one film was able to top $10,000 on the per theater chart, but it did so with ease. Sicko earned $68,969 in its lone theater, and also sold out all 43 advanced screenings. This is a very good sign for Friday's wide release, although I'm still not confident it will open in the top five.

Manufactured Landscapes may have missed $10,000 over the weekend, but it came quite close with $9,129 from Friday to Sunday while it earned $16,039 including Wednesday and Thursday. Colma: The Musical also opened well with $8,403, as did Broken English with an average of $7,885. You Kill Me opened a little lower than expected with an average of $6,677, but with a theater count of 35 it was the biggest limited release in terms of raw dollars and should be able to expand somewhat. Just behind was Lady Chatterley, which earned an average of $6,563 in 5 theaters. Horror / Comedies again proved to be a tough sell as Black Sheep earned just over $16,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $4,026; I am still confident it will find an audience on the home market. Finally, Klimt opened with just $2,300 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Once reached $3 million over the weekend and will have little problem topping $4 million before long.
  • Likewise, Paris, je t'aime also made it to $3 million and should have little trouble reaching $4 million.
  • La Vie en Rose also hit $3 million and will reach $4 million on Monday or perhaps Tuesday.
  • Waitress made it all the way to $15 million and even though it has peaked and is shedding theaters, it still has a shot at $20 million.
