International Details - Race to the Top Ends Short

The latest Indian movie to be released on the worldwide stage was Race, which earned $9.90 million on 1212 screens in 16 markets placing sixth on the international charts. It did very well in India, but exact numbers were not released.

  • Vantage Point fell out of the top five but still earned a strong $8.10 million on 2623 screens in 33 markets for a total of $52.31 million after a month of release. In France the film placed third with an opening of $2.38 million on 354 screens while in the U.K. it added $1.47 million 323 screens over the weekend for a total of $8.49 million after three.
  • Juno moved in the other direction as it added $4.26 million on 1276 screens in 30 markets for a total of $64.83 million internationally and $206.32 million worldwide. It opened in third place in Germany with $2.13 million on 243 screens for a very impressive per screens average of $8,766, the second best in the top ten there.
  • The Other Boleyn Girl returned to the top ten with $3.95 million on 1061 screens in 15 markets for a total of $20.19 million. Its only major market opening came in South Korea where it placed fifth with $936,000 on 157 screens over the weekend and $1.07 million in total.
  • Die Welle remained in first place in its Germany growing by 3% to $3.32 million on 382 screens over the weekend for a total of $8.10 million in total. Overall it made $3.47 million on 420 screens in 2 markets for a total of $8.63 million.
  • No Country For Old Men slipped out of the top ten with $3.46 million on 1314 screens in 43 markets for a total of $74.47 million. The film has now made more internationally than it has domestically and has likely already topped $150 million worldwide.
  • 27 Dresses expaned into Russia and that helped it climb to 12th place with $3.33 million on 1077 screens in 16 markets for a total of $49.34 million. In Russia it scored fifth place with $1.0 6 million on 220 screens, which is an average debut.
  • Meet the Spartans opened in the U.K. with $2.27 million on 350 screens, which was enough for fourth place. Overall the film was in 13th place this past weekend with $3.08 million on 936 screens in 9 markets for a still early total of $25.10 million.
  • National Treasure: Book Of Secrets returned to the charts in 14th place with $2.71 million on 1509 screens in 23 markets for a total of $230.46 million. It's biggest opening came in China where it earned topped spot with $4.8 million, but that was for the full week.
  • Radio Days opened in first place in South Korea with $2.67 million on 440 screens, which was enough for 15th place overall.
  • Fate opened in second place in South Korea with $2.52 million on 358 screens over the weekend and $3.04 million in total, which was enough for 16th place overall.
  • Enchanted fell 48% during its second weekend in Japan added $2.28 million on 534 screens over the weekend for a total of $12.14 million after two. Overall it made $2.45 million on 591 screens in 8 markets for a total of $195.90 million on the international scene.
  • Doraemon: Nobita To Midori No Kyojinten returned to first place in Japan with $2.32 million on 344 screens for a total of $15.20 million.
  • Grande, Grosso E Verdone fell nearly 50%, again, adding $2.26 million on 412 screens over the weekend for a total of $18.73 million. This was still enough for first in Italy, but the film has fallen to 19th place internationally.
  • Jumper had the worst week-to-week decline of the past week down 54% and 12 spots. It did add $2.18 million on 1357 screens in 22 markets and now has $111.07 million internationally, and should hit $200 million worldwide shortly.
  • One Missed Call made its first big push onto the international charts landing in 21st place with $2.11 million on 659 screens in 14 markets for a total of $6.67 million so far. The film opened in fourth place in Mexico with $677,000 on 250 screens over the weekend and $840,000 in total. Meanwhile in Spain it placed fifth with $768,000 on 165 screens over the weekend and $1.09 million in total. For a horror film to struggle in Spain like this is a really bad sign.
  • Earth slipped another spot to 22nd the week with $2.10 million on 501 screens in 4 markets for a total of $65.90 million. It hit a major milestone in Germany with a total of $25.95 million, including $2.06 million on 421 screens this past weekend. This is roughly equivalent to a $200 million run here.
  • The Water Horse: Legend Of The Deep earned $2.08 million on 1645 screens in 31 markets for a total of $53.75 million. The film opened in South Korea but only managed ninth place with $251,000 on 60 screens over the weekend and $279,000 in total.
  • Drillbit Taylor started its international run in 24th place with $2.00 million on 435 screens in 3 markets. The film's biggest market was Australia where it placed third with $1.12 million on 196 screens, while it only managed fifth place in Mexico with $660,000 on 285 screens over the weekend and $807,000 in total.
  • Dan In Real Life landed in the top 30 for the first time in its run with $1.95 million on 551 screens in 7 markets for a total of $9.87 million. Openings this week include Spain where it placed fourth with $929,000 on 191 screens over the weekend and $1.25 million in total while it crashed in Germany with $906,000 on 312 screens landing in eighth place.
  • Questa Nott Ancora Nostra opened in third place in Italy and 26th overall with $1.95 million on 399 screens over the weekend and $2.40 million in total.
  • I've Loved You So Long... opened in second place in France and 27th overall with $1.94 million on 261 screens.
  • Colpo d'Occhio opened in fourth place in Italy and 28th overall with $1.81 million on 387 screens over the weekend and $1.92 million in total.
  • His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass was down just 20% and that kept it in the top 30 one last weekend earning $1.78 million on 681 screens in 5 markets for a total of $286.95 million. $1.70 million of the weekend figure came from 617 screens in Japan while the film has made $24.51 million in that market after four weeks.
  • Recep Ivedik landed in 30th place with $1.72 million on 320 screens in 4 markets over the weekend for a total of $24.88 million after a month of release.
On last note, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour opened in Australia and New Zealand over the last weekend and scored strong openings in limited release. In the former market it earned $423,000 on just 19 screens earning seventh place while in the latter it placed eighth with $64,000 on just 2 screens. However, the news was not all good as it was down 53% in the U.K. with $226,000 on 65 screens for a total of $883,000.
