Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of June 20, 2008

June 21, 2008

Slow week for new releases, therefore, it's a slow week for websites. However, at least ever release had a site, and none were below average, while the best was The Love Guru - Official Site.

Brick Lane - Official Site
All the usual features are here, but there are no extras and outside fades used as transitions, there's not sound or animation. In other words, it's a basic site, but there are no flaws either.

Get Smart - Official Site
A disappointing site that doesn't have much in the way of extras. There is a trailer for the game and a Control vs. Kaos side site, but that's not a lot. Hardly anything, really.

Global Metal - Official Site
Just the synopsis, gallery, and trailer.

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl - Official Site
A very strong site with all of the usual features (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer), as well as several extras. Some of the extras involve the regular features. For instance, all of the cast bios and the first image gallery have audio clips, and there are a lot of bios and images. Almost three dozen audio clips combined. There are a few videos starting with a clip from the movie and two behind-the-scenes videos. There are even two games: a jigsaw puzzle and a trivia game. Finally, in the download section, there are excerpts from the book, crafts, recipes, and more. A very full site that sells the movie well.

The Love Guru - Official Site
A site that has a lot more style than substance, which is both good and bad. On the one hand, there's plenty of additional features on the site besides the usual ones, the best of which is arguably the game, Sitar Star, which is there take on Guitar Hero. Other extras include three video clips, soundboard, instructions on yoga poses, and that's not counting the side site. On The Guru Pitka site, there are several affirmations, most of which are funnier than the official trailer, as well as many Word of the Week and more Compound Word of the Week. The latter is little more than an excuse to break up normal words that have 'naughty' syllables in them. Like shampoo. It's juvenile, but at least that fits with the movie. Add in the regular features, and the sound and animation, and this is a very strong site. In fact, it is the best of the week and the winner of the meditative Weekly Website Award.
