Movie Website Reviews for the Weekend of March 20th, 2009

March 21, 2009

If I were to use just one word to describe the sites on this week's list, that would would be 'solid'. Most of the sites on this list have all of the usual features, while a few has some minor extras. But none have what it takes to be the winner of the Weekly Website Award.

Duplicity - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, as well as five clips. There's also enough sound and animation to not seem boring, but not enough to truly stand out. Effective, but average.

The Great Buck Howard - Official Site
Most of the basics, with the bios MIA. It is just a limited release, but with the star power and the number of theaters, I was expecting more.

I Love You, Man -Official Site
Another site with all of the basics, plus a ton of clips. However, while there's enough sound and animation to not seem boring, it's not award worthy either. Compared to most wide releases, this site doesn't have enough to put it over the top.

Knowing - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, as well as some clips and a few ways all life on the Earth could end. (Not particularly likely ways. For instance, I don't think Mercury is going to slam into the Earth tomorrow.) There's a bit of sound and animation, but nothing that really makes it stand out, especially considering it's the widest release of the week.

The New Twenty - Official Site
There are plenty of clips on this site, and a rather active blog, but the synopsis and image gallery is only available in the downloadable press kit.

Sin Nombre - No Official Site
No site, which is disappointing as this is one of the best movies of the week.

Spinning into Butter - Official Site
Most of the usual features are here (there are no bios, just a cast & crew list. However, the site says the movie is opening next week.

Super Capers - Official Site
I like the comic book motif here, and the way the usual features are presented. For instance, many of the bios have 360-degree views of the characters. Extras include a trio of behind-the-scenes clips, as well as a game. There are a few mouseover bits of sound and animation; however, the background music is too short. Overall the site is better than average, but doesn't truly stand out.

Valentino: The Last Emperor - Official Site
All the usual features are here, including a trio of clips. There is also a contest where you can submit pictures of your Pug. The style is rather subdued, but that's a minor complaint.
