It is Summertime on the Per Theater Chart

May 20, 2009

L'Heure D'Ete, which literally means Summer Time, reigned on top of the Per Theater Chart this weekend with an average of $24,742 in two theaters. It was also one of five films to reach $10,000, which is a sign that summer has truly begun. Second place went to The Brothers Bloom with an average of $22,600, and that is enough to suggest some potential to expand. Angels and Demons opened in first place overall and in third place on this chart with an average of $13,100. Not Forgotten was not far behind, earning an average of $11,192 in three theaters. Finally, Star Trek managed to remain in the $10,000 club for the second weekend in a row, which is very rare for a wide release these days, earning an sophomore average of $11,149.

There were only a few other new releases, but none that performed well. Big Man Japan earned an average of $3,567, but that can be called mediocre, at best. Jerichow topped the Mendoza line with an average of $2,681, but that's faint praise. Management wasn't as lucky, opening with under $400,000 in over 200 theaters for an average of just $1,773.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Is Anybody There? made it to $1 million since last week, but that likely won't be its last milestone.
  • Sin Nombre reached $2 million since last week. That will be its last milestone.
