Tuesday Grosses, Developing News on Transformers

Variety reports that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opened with $16 million in midnight screenings last night -- a record for a movie opening on a Wednesday, and only slightly behind the $18.5 million earned by The Dark Knight at its Friday midnight screenings last year.
Paramount will be including the midnight screenings in its calculation of the total opening receipts, which will be released in its official report tomorrow.
We will post the numbers as soon as we receive them (most likely around 12.30pm, Pacific, although Paramount may release data earlier).
Revenge of the Fallen is playing in 4,234 theaters today, and will be gunning for an opening day in the mid-$50 million range.
