Education High on the Per Theater Chart

November 3, 2009

The per theater chart took a hit over the weekend and no movie topped $10,000; however, An Education was close with an average of $9,737 in 48 theaters.

The best of the new limited releases was The House of the Devil with a strong average of $8,398 in three theaters. The Boondock Saints 2 - All Saints Day overcame bad reviews to earn more than $500,000 in 68 theaters for an average of $8,040. This is twice what the original made in total, worldwide. Skin earned an estimated $24,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $6,000. Gentlemen Broncos was right behind with an average of $5,751 in 2 theaters. London Dreams earned more than $200,000 in more than 80 theaters for an average of just $2,536, but at least it topped the Mendoza Line.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • New York, I Love You made it to $1 million over the weekend, but that's likely as far as it will go.
  • An Education hit $1 million just before the weekend and it is already halfway to $2 million.
  • Coco Before Chanel has earned $2 million so far and is on pace to hit $3 million, or more.
  • Good Hair topped $3 million just before the weekend, while it has a small chance of reaching $4 million by this time next week.
  • Bright Star hit $4 million early in the weekend and it still has a slim chance to get to $5 million.
  • A Serious Man saw its weekend haul fall for the first time, but it still reached $4 million over the weekend and it should reach $5 million by this time next week.
