DVD Sales - Rise of G.I.Joe

There were five new releases sprinkled throughout the top 30 on this week's sales chart, mostly in the top ten. This includes a new number one best selling DVD, G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra, which sold 2.54 million units and accounted for $41.00 million in consumer spending at retail. This is on par with Wolverine sales late in September. Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs fell to second place with 975,000 units / $17.32 million for the week for totals of 3.48 million units / $59.17 million. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 opened in third place with 920,000 / $14.15 million, which is about where it was expected to open. Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen slipped a spot to fourth with 792,000 units over the past week for a total of 7.56 million units after three. That's the second best sales for the year, but its total revenue of $170.72 million are the best of the year so far. Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure fell to fifth place with 636,000 units for the week and 2.15 million units / $34.42 million after two. Compared to the first Tinker Bell movie, it has now sold more DVDs during the same point in its run, and it is holding up better, which is good news for Disney, and the franchise.

Aliens in the Attic just missed the top five, placing sixth with 307,000 units / $4.98 million, which is on par with expectations given its theatrical numbers. Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Complete Season One opened in eighth place with 157,000 units while generating $4.70 million during its opening week of release. Finally, I Love You, Beth Cooper missed the top ten and landed in 12th place with 124,000 units / $2.11 million.

Overall Blu-ray sales rose 5.8% to $28.1 million, which is 231% higher than the same week last year. Compared to DVD, Blu-ray represented 14.3% of total sales and 17.7% of the top 20 comparison. Our exclusive research shows the number one selling Blu-ray was G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra, which sold 936,000 units, which represents 27% of total sales.
