Just the two limited releases on this week's list, but one of them, Up in the Air, could be a major player during this year's Awards Season. It has already picked up a prestigious award this week.

Serious Moonlight - Reviews
Written by Adrienne Shelly and directed by Cheryl Hines, whom Shelly directed in Waitress. This is the last project Shelly worked on before her tragic murder, so there's a sentimental note attached to it and there's a pretty good cast here, so one hopes it will thrive in limited release. However, the reviews suggest otherwise. Serious Moonlight opens tonight in 8 theaters, mostly in the Los Angeles area.

Up in the Air - Reviews
National Board of Review just picked this movie as the best film of the year just yesterday. Talk about perfect timing. George Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham, a man whose job is to travel the country firing people. He takes great pride in his job, and his nearly 10 million frequent flier miles, but as he nears that milestone, he is forced to take a new co-worker, Natalie, and show her how its done. This has amazing reviews and an equally amazing cast, including a number of cameos by very funny actors playing Bingham's "victims." The film is opening in more theaters than most limited releases, but I would be surprised if it didn't thrive in limited release. Up in the Air opens tonight in 15 theaters nationwide.
