Titanic... You're next. Avatar saw its weekend box office climb by 10% to $150.99 million on 15,301 screens in 93 markets for a total of $915.05 million internationally and $1.35 billion worldwide. This is now the second highest grossing film of all time, and at this rate Titanic's seemingly insurmountable record is very much within reach. In fact, Avatar is now the biggest ever release in Russia with $76.17 million, including $11.14 million on 927 screens this past weekend and it has broken all-time records in other smaller markets and is coming close in a number of major markets. Additionally, the film had the biggest opening in China, where it debuted with $41.4 million on 2,474 screens. That would be a pretty good opening domestically, so to see it in an international market is enormous. I'll be very, very interested to see if this is a aberration, or this is a sign that China is becoming the biggest international market. Other markets of note include France, where it has crossed the $100 million mark, the first international market where it reached that milestone. This won't be the last market where the film reaches $100 million, while by this time next week it will have reached $1 billion internationally and $1.5 billion worldwide.

Sherlock Holmes remained in second place with $26.14 million on 4,285 screens in 43 markets for a total of $132.55 million internationally and $297.70 million worldwide. The film opened in third place in Brazil with $2.43 million on 304 screens, while it slipped to third place in Australia with $2.48 million on 307 screens over the weekend for a total of $16.54 million after three. Meanwhile in the U.K. it remained in second place with $3.27 million on 486 screens putting its total at $25.27 million after three weeks. The film has yet to open in Spain, Germany, France, and Japan, and it will have no trouble adding at least another $100 million internationally while $500 million worldwide is within reach.

Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel remained in third place with $21.82 million on 6,248 screens in 56 markets for a total of $136.23 million internationally and $314.68 million worldwide. It's biggest debut of the weekend was in Brazil where it made $3.43 million on 361 screens giving it $5.15 million including previews. This was enough to take first place in the market. At this pace, the film will have no problem topping the original worldwide, and it might even do that by this time next week.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? entered the top five for the first time, earning $8.17 million on 1,887 screens in 16 markets for a total of $15.46 million. It opened in second place in both Germany and Spain with $2.29 million on 491 screens in the former and $1.87 million on 346 screens in the latter. The early evidence suggests the film will be a bigger hit internationally than it was domestically, but that's not a huge achievement.

It's Complicated climbed into fifth place with $7.75 million on 1,758 screens in 17 markets for an early international total of $23.29 million. It was okay in the U.K., where it managed fifth place with $1.77 million on 434 screens. However, it earned second place in Australia with a powerful $3.19 million on 304 screens.
