Final Starts Out in First Place on Per Theater Chart

April 20, 2010

The City of Your Final Destination rode its pedigree to first place with $24,401 in its one theater, while Exit Through the Gift Shop was very close behind with an average of $21,345 in eight theaters. The Secret in Their Eyes opened in third place with an average of $16,787 in ten theaters. Of these three films, Exit earned the best reviews. However, the Oscar winning Secret could have the best long-term success.

The next best new limited release, Handsome Harry, was well back with an average of $3,141 in 4 theaters. It appears that The Joneses opened in too many theaters, as it managed an average of just $2,641 in nearly 200 of them. The same can be said of The Perfect Game, which missed the Mendoza Line with $1,223.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo reached $3 million in the United States and has now made more during its release than it did during its previous run in Canada.
  • Greenberg also made it to $3 million and it is nearly halfway to $4 million.
