Iron Rockets to the Top of the Per Theater Chart
The overall box office leader, Iron Man 2, was also the leader on the Per Theater Chart with an impressive average of $29,252. That is below expectations, but still excellent. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Mother and Child, which opened with $10,760.
No other new limited release was able to come close to $10,000 on the per theater chart. The Oath was the closest with $5,760 in one theater. The latest OSS 117 release, Lost in Rio, opened with just over $10,000 in three theaters for an average of $3,414. Casino Jack and the United States of Money was very close behind with an average of $3,137 in nine theaters. Finally we get to Multiple Sarcasms, which missed the Mendoza Line with an average of just $1,068. Given its cast, this is a surprise; given its reviews, it is not.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:
- The Perfect Game finally reached $1 million since this time last week, but that's as far as it will go.
- A Prophet reached $2 million late in the weekend, but that's also as far as it will go.
- Greenberg hit $4 million, but it is starting to shed theaters, so it likely won't get much farther.
- As expected, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo made it all the way to $5 million. This bodes well for the English-language remake.
