DVD Sales: New Releases Fail to Crack the Top Five

No new release reached the top five on the DVD sales chart this week. This left Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I in first place with 636,000 units / $9.62 million for the week and 4.93 million units / $70.01 million after three. It's not quite the best selling DVD of 2011, but its solidly in second place.
The King's Speech rose to second place with 486,000 units / $7.97 million for the week and 1.32 million units / $20.42 million after two. This is inline with expectations, at least with the new market levels. Tangled fell to third place with 315,000 units / $4.86 million for the week, but it continues to lead the year with 5.83 million units / $89.11 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader rose a spot to fourth place with 133,000 units / $2.18 million for the week, lifting its running total to 1.37 million units / $23.28 million after a month of release. Tron: Legacy returned to the top five with 116,000 units / $2.08 million for the week and 1.27 million units / $20.86 million after a month. Its DVD sales are on the disappointing side, but it is mostly compensating with its Blu-ray sales.
The best new release of the week was South Park: Season 14, which placed sixth with 106,000 units; however, thanks to the TV on DVD pricing, it placed fourth in terms of dollars with $3.18 million. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Volumes One and Two opened in 14th and 16th places respectively with 72,000 units and 68,000 units. This means at least 4000 people bought the first volume, but not the second. This is a little weird, but if it were the other way around, it would have been completely inexplicable.
