DVD Sales: King's in the Green

As expected, there were not many new releases to reach the top 30 on this week's DVD sales chart. However, in an unexpected twist, this weakness in the new releases allowed The King's Speech to climb into top spot with 531,000 units over the weekend for totals of 1.66 million units / $23.93 million after three. Maybe its word-of-mouth is helping out.
The Green Hornet managed to open in second place with 476,000 units, while it was first in terms of dollars with $7.62 million. Not a bad start for the film, plus it was even better on Blu-ray, relative to the size of that market. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I fell to third place for the week with 349,000 units / $3.49 million, while it remains in second place for the year with 4.73 million units / $65.70 million. Black Swan returned to the top five with 209,000 units for the week giving it a total of 1.19 million after six. Rounding out the top five was The Dilemma with 198,000 units / $3.19 million. It was a disappointment at the box office, and it is a disappointment on the home market.
No other new releases reached the top 30 this week.
