Per Theater Chart: Bullying is No Game

The ratings controversy didn't hurt Bully, which topped the per theater chart with an average of $23,294 in five theaters. It is always difficult for a documentary to expand significantly, but this start will certainly help. The overall box office leader, The Hunger Games, was next with an average of $14,153 in more than 4,000 theaters.

Most of the rest of the new limited releases really struggled. The Island President did well with an average of $6,999 in two theaters over the weekend, while it's averaged $8,952 since Wednesday. Turn Me On, Dammit! also did rather well with an average of $5,073. Foreign language films do have a harder time in theaters. The rest of the new releases failed to reach the Mendoza Line with Goon earning just $1,583 in 31 theaters. However, it was released as Video on Demand for more than a month, so this result is not surprising and given its reviews, it should perform better when it hits the home market next month. The Beat Hotel doesn't have the same bright future with an average of $1,458 in its lone theater and weak reviews to go along. Intruders opened in far too many theaters earning an average of $1,235 in 33. I Kissed a Vampire earned just $1,380 in 11 theaters, and that's not an average of $1,380 but a total of $1,380. Its average was $125.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

• Jeff, Who Lives at Home made it to $2 million just before the weekend and it is close to $3 million already.
• October Baby just reached $3 million over the weekend, but its per theater average fell enough that it is likely to see its theater count cut relatively quickly.
• Salmon Fishing in the Yemen had the best weekend in its run earning more than $1 million and powering its way to $3 million. However, its per theater average suggests it won't expand significantly more.
• Goon got to $4 million in Canada just before the weekend. It will only make a fraction of that in the States.
• Casa de mi Padre topped $5 million, but that's as far as it goes.
