Movie Websites Launches for June 4 - June 10

June 10, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Garfield - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

Anchorman
Current Content: Another Ron Burgundy Thought of the week was added and the downloads section was fixed.

Around the World in 80 Days
Current Content: San Francisco was finally added to the site. It includes a bit of information on the early history of San Francisco and a side scroll skating game.

The Chronicles of Riddick
Current Content: So far no new updates this week, but its early in the day so I'll check back and see if there were any last minute updates in time for tomorrow's opening. … Nope, no such luck.

The Clearing
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and there's plenty of animation and while at first I thought there was no sound, it turns out there is. It's just really quite. I had to turn my speakers up really loud just to hear it. However, then trailer was too loud. Volume balance should be a relatively simple to maintain, so the fact that it's off is a bit of an annoyance. As for the actual content, the usual features are here, synopsis, cast and crew bios, trailer, etc. The production notes and in .pdf format and are very extensive.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Current Content: Most of the cast bios were added, as was an additional clip. This one shows Justin Long being hit repeatedly with a ball. I think it’s the perfect clip to show on the site, because if you still find the clip funny after seeing it 10 or so times, then this movie is for you.

Exorcist: The Beginning
Current Content: The flash site launched, and it's quite good. The majority of the site is actually an interactive intro, however, unlike the award winning House of Sand and Fog official site, this one has no branching. The rest of the site is pretty basic, synopsis, trailer, (marked coming soon) cast and crew bios, image gallery, etc.

Friday Night Lights
Current Content: Just the synopsis and cast and crew, (no bios.)

Garfield
Current Content: All the usual features are here, synopsis, production notes, cast and crew bios, trailer, image gallery and downloads. There are a few extras like the music video and build your own wallpaper but it is the four games that take center stage in that respect. Get Pooky, Food Frenzy, Memory Game and my favorite, Tabby Tennis, (that's an awful pun.) This site also has an impressive amount of sound and animation; even the buttons are animated. And on every section there is usually some extra bit of animation that adds to the fun. Overall the site has very good content present with style, and that's what it takes to win the gluttonous Weekly Website Award.

The Green Hornet
Current Content: Another news item was added to the site, and this time it's a biggie. Kevin Smith may not direct the movie.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Current Content: Another destruction of the Earth intro was added, making four total ways to destroy the Earth. Also the Photo Gallery was added to the site. And they really took Photo literally, as there is only one photo, at least so far.

The Hunting of the President
Current Content: This site has a huge amount of information, so much so that I wonder if seeing the movie is redundant after reading the site. It has the usual features for a documentary site, synopsis, trailer, filmmakers, etc. It also has a very in-depth timeline as well as short bios on the key figures in the Clinton scandals.

I, Robot
Current Content: The first of four games was added to the site, however, it was very slow on my system.

Ju-On: The Grudge
Current Content: The synopsis and cast and crew filmographies were added.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Current Content: The teaser trailer was added, finally, and so was a new eye. And perhaps a few more images. The site's a little hectic and it's easy to lose track of what's new.

The Manchurian Candidate
Current Content: Images were added to the site, and two new sites were launched. The Manchurian Candidate and Manchurian Global.

Napoleon Dynamite
Current Content: I've got to say right away that this site has 10 songs that you can listen to as background music, which is a lot of selection. However, the quality of those songs leave something to be desired. It's like bad hammond organ music. Of course, I think that's the style they were going for; so not cool that it's hip. The rest of the site follows a similar style and it works quite well. All the usual features are there, synopsis, trailer, etc. and even some interactive features like a coloring book you can download and more.

Polar Express
Current Content: The full trailer was added.

The Ring 2
Current Content: The placeholder site was replaced by a re-direct.

She Hate Me
Current Content: The flash site launched this week. And while it has most of the usual features and a bit of animation, there's no sound.

Stander
Current Content: The trailer was added to the site this week.

The Stepford Wives
Current Content: The film opens tomorrow and this site is quite good, possibly better than the movie itself if the reviews are any indication.

The Terminal
Current Content: The image gallery was added to the site, as were the cast and crew bios and some promotions.

Two Brothers
Current Content: The interactive features were added to McRory's Journal. That leaves just the clips yet to be added and chances are they won't be until after the film is released.

Wimbledon
Current Content: So far it's just the synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), trailer and a several images.
