Per Theater Chart: Samsara (Sleep)Walks to the Top

September 5, 2012

Samsara expanded from two to nine theaters, but held on well enough to rise to top spot on the per theater chart with $12,597. Sleepwalk With Me expanded to 29 theaters and was very solid with an average of $11,127.

The best of the new limited releases was The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate with an average of $6,363 in 15 theaters. For a Good Time Call opened in 23 theaters with an average of $6,258. It is unlikely that either film will expand significantly. Little Birds earned $4,574 in one theater over the weekend and $6,914 from Wednesday through Sunday. The Good Doctor missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,590 in two theaters. Breathing was even weaker at just $949 in one theater, while The Day rounded off the list of new releases with an average of $843 in twelve.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Killer Joe made it to $1 million since this time last week, but it might not get to $2 million.
  • Robot and Frank topped $1 million over the weekend and should get to $2 million shortly.
  • Monsieur Lazhar got to $2 million in the United States alone, if you include Monday.
  • Celeste and Jesse Forever also hit $2 million, but also only if you include Monday.
  • 2016: Obama's America reached $10 million before the weekend, $15 million over the weekend alone, and $20 million if you include Monday.
