International Box Office: Blue Skies Ahead

Skyfall expanded worldwide earning $156.09 million on 12,545 screens in 81 markets for a two-week total of $289.81 million. This is already more than Die Another Day finished with internationally, while it is on pace to top $500 million. This week it opened in first place in Germany with $21.28 million on 789 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $23.67 million It also earned first in Italy with $7.02 million on 632 screens over the weekend and $7.87 million in total. It had to settle for second place in Spain with $3.97 million on 639 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $6.50 million. Likewise, it only managed second place in Mexico with $2.67 million on 1,151 screens over the weekend for a total opening on $3.01 million. It dipped just 20% in the U.K. earning $25.74 million on 593 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $85.40 million. It is the biggest hit in that market all year. The film grew by 31% in France to $13.91 million on 845 screens over the weekend for a total of $28.26 million. It remained in first place in Russia with $5.74 million on 1,254 screens over the weekend for an early total of $16.67 million. It rose 1% in Brazil to $3.23 million on 558 screens over the weekend for a total of $7.78 million after two. The film was pushed into second place in South Korea, but still did well with $3.20 million on 581 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $11.59 million. The film has yet to open in Australia and Japan, while it makes its debut here this weekend.

Hotel Transylvania remained in second place with $14.19 million on 4,871 screens in 50 markets for a total of $115.71 million internationally, while it hit $253.19 million worldwide. It was pushed into second place in Germany with $2.75 million on 580 over the weekend for a total of $6.55 million after two weeks of release. In Spain it remained flat with $3.33 million on 643 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $8.52 million.

Paranormal Activity 4 remained in third place with $14.09 million on 4,187 screens in 49 markets for a total of $68.32 million after three weeks of release. The film opened in third place in France with a surprisingly strong $4.15 million on 250 screens. The previous film made just over $2.5 million in its opening there last year, so this represents strong growth. On the other hand, it only managed sixth place in Japan with $756,000 on 156 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $1.15 million. This is lower than the third installment opened with.

Astérix And Obélix: God Save Britannia rose to fourth place with $10.92 million on 3,410 screens in 23 markets for a total of $39.29 million after three weeks of release. This includes a 29% increase in France, where it earned $5.83 million on 776 screens over the weekend for a total of $21.29 million after three weeks of release.

Wreck-It-Ralph opened in fifth place with $10.22 million on 2,838 screens in 9 markets over the weekend for a total opening of $12.00 million. The film opened in first place in Mexico with $3.93 million on 1,301 screens over the weekend for a total of $4.30 million. It had to settle for second place in Russia, but was still strong with $5.27 million on 1,215.

Tai Chi Hero rose to sixth place with $9.21 million in 6 markets for an early total of $11.17 million. Like most Chinese films, we have no other information than that.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted held firm in seventh place with $8.07 million on 2,699 screens in 26 markets for totals of $512.80 million internationally and $729.17 million worldwide.

Taken 2 slipped to eighth place with $7.78 million on 3,756 screens in 63 markets for totals of $217.52 million internationally and $343.11 million worldwide. It has yet to open in Japan, but at this point, it has already made a profit, so that market is pure gravy.

Silent Hill: Revelation slipped a spot to ninth with $6.87 million on 2,123 screens in 12 markets for a two-week total of $16.50 million. The film opened in third place in the U.K. with $1.67 million on 367 screens, but only managed ninth place in Italy with $540,000 on 216 screens over the weekend and a total opening of $679,000.

A Werewolf Boy opened in first place in South Korea and tenth place internationally with $6.83 million on 706 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $8.49 million.
