Gracing the Per Theatre Charts

July 21, 2004

Only two films topped $10,000 per theatre this weekend, and they were at opposite ends of the release spectrum. Coming in first was Maria Full of Grace with a weekend take of $139,066 in just 7 theatres for an average of $19,867. Next was the overall box office champ, I, Robot with a $15,257 average in 3,420 theatres.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theatre Charts alumnus:

  • Before Sunset's weekly numbers continue to grow after three weeks and it topped $1 million during the mid-week. It should hit $2 million during this week and top the original's $5 million before its run is done.
  • De-Lovely crossed $1 million on Friday and more than matched that figure over the weekend. Its per theatre average is still very strong and it will certainly make more appearances on this chart.
  • As expected, The Clearing crossed the $2 million mark on Monday and the $3 million mark over the weekend.
  • Word of mouth must be really helping out Napoleon Dynamite at the box office. Not only did its theatre count rise, so did it's per theatre average. This led to an increase in the weekend earnings for the fifth week in a row while pushing its total box office past $4 million.
