DVD Sales: Ted Knocks Out Batman

January 22, 2013

Ted led a trio of new releases that placed high on the DVD sales chart. It earned first place with 1.67 million units and $26.66 million, which was better than I anticipated. The Dark Knight Rises was pushed to second place with 826,000 units / $11.88 million for the week for totals of 2.85 million units and $38.85 million after two. It is already in seventh place for the year. Ice Age: Continental Drift debuted in third place with 654,000 units / $11.11 million. You expect a family film to perform better on DVD. The Bourne Legacy was right behind in fourth place, with 562,000 units / $9.56 million. That's not a great start, but acceptable. Brave remains potent earning fifth place with 352,000 units / $6.18 million. It has now sold 5.20 million units and generated $88.79 million in total revenue, which is simply fantastic.

While there were three new releases in the top five, there were no other new releases in the top thirty.
