Blu-ray Sales: March 10th, 2013: Wreck-Ralph Towers Above Competition
Wreck-It Ralph led a group of five new releases earning first place on the March 10th, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart. The film sold 1.01 million units and generated $28.29 million in opening week sales, for an opening week Blu-ray share of 50%. This is is amazing for a kids film. Granted, it does have a high nerd nostalgia factor, which helped on Blu-ray, but this is still impressive. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 fell to second place with 412,000 units / $8.22 million for the week for totals of 1.09 million / $21.80 million after two. Red Dawn earned third place with 206,000 units / $4.73 million for an opening week Blu-ray share of 42%. That's not a bad start, but given the target audience, it should have had a little higher opening week Blu-ray share. Skyfall crossed the 2 million unit milestone with 85,000 units / $1.96 million for the week giving it totals of 2.03 million units / $42.19 million after four weeks of release. Argo slipped a spot to fifth with 51,000 units / $1.18 million for the week and 542,000 units / $12.45 million after three.
Schindler's List made its long awaited Blu-ray debut in 10th place with 23,000 units / $527,000, which is excellent for a catalog title. The Marine 3: Homefront missed the top ten in 14th place with 14,000 units / $272,000. Its opening week Blu-ray share was just 21%, which is low for an action film. Playing for Keeps was even lower at 13,000 units / $258,000. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 20%, which is low, even for a drama.
